Are HTC a bit short sighted?

How absolutely dumb of HTC to release this which allows you to plug in your own earbuds but NOT include any music controls !!!!!!

Oops

No music control. Very limited call control. I would never buy this if it weren't for it being the only thing that I can plug my own headphones into. Got my first one 8 months ago and it has already broken
